Wok&Go has committed a further £2000 worth of food vouchers to The Port Grocery, the community-run food club based at Trinity Church, right opposite their Ellesmere Port branch.

Des Pheby, the founder of Wok&Go and its parent company Pheby Food Concepts Group Ltd in Chester, says the initiative is something that lets him do his small part to treat families around the Ellesmere Port area to a treat over the festive period. These vouchers are available for existing club members as well as anybody who joins The Port Grocery.

“I think we’ve all had about enough of the past few months and with it getting towards Christmas that anxiety is only increased”, said Mr Pheby, also known as The Franchise Entrepreneur. “The end of this second lockdown is a small boost for everyone and we wanted to add a little extra for the people of Ellesmere Port.”

For Wok&Go, which originated out of Chester in 2008, this will be their third commitment to supporting The Port Grocery having already committed £2000 of vouchers on two previous occasions, one just before lockdown in February and recently in November.

“We are in unprecedented times and unchartered waters. People are coming together to help and protect each other. This amazing offer from Wok&Go demonstrates how business’s want to help our community,” said Rita Lewis, founder of The Port Grocery.

“For some going for a Wok&Go is a luxury or a treat. Wok&Go have now made this available to many of our members who are feeling the pinch with furlough and job losses. It couldn’t have come at a better time to lift the spits of our members. Well done Wok&Go.

This isn’t the first time the brand has committed to providing food for families who need it most, recently the Wok&Go committed to offering free kids boxes during the half-term periods to help support those in need. As well as this, Wok&Go and Dough Dough – another restaurant under the Pheby Food Concepts Group umbrella gave out over 1000 free meals to NHS as a thank you to all of the staff at Chester Countess Hospital for their hard work throughout this pandemic. The Port Grocery, which aims to divert as much food from landfill to people who need it, began in Ellesmere Port in 2016 and is now a vital part of the community.

Shaun Jones, business development manager said, “People already have enough to worry about, never mind with the added pressures of the upcoming festive period. This is our small way of giving back to the local community and encourage other local businesses to do the same if they are able.” To find out more about The Port Grocery you can head over to https://www.facebook.com/ThePortGroceryCIC/.
